“After attending the past 2 UCCCs I am so excited to attend next year’s UCCC at my own campus. For me the conference is an opportunity to learn more about our deep Catholic faith and teachings, and one of my favorite parts is the workshop series. Each year the topics are different and all of them are super interesting. One of the most memorable workshops for me was “7 Deadly Apps” by Be The Straw Ministry, where I gained a better understanding about the 7 deadly sins through the use of apps like Instagram and Yelp. It was definitely a new way to look at the topic, and it was such an entertaining and informative talk. I’m really interested to find out what workshops are going to be offered this year!
One tip for everyone attending: pick different workshops than your friends so you can share what you learn and get the full experience!”
“My favorite part of being Catholic? Hmm…that’s a tough one, there’s so many things to choose from! I guess when people say that Catholics are too “strict” and “judgmental” I get really sad because that’s the opposite of what our church stands for. Because of this, I’d have to say my favorite part about being Catholic is the fact that we believe that God’s desire is to save us, NOT to condemn us. Our God is a forgiving, understanding, loving God— what else could you ask for?”
“I am so excited to meet new friends and reconnect with my old friends at UCCC this year! Sharing experiences with a buddy is always more enjoyable than having fun by yourself, so what better place to find a buddy than at this Catholic conference? I’m looking forward to the moments of learning and laughter during the talks and workshops and all the fun that comes around when you’re surrounded by friends all over California who share the same faith as you. Most of all, I can’t wait to have Adoration…we have some big surprise plans for it, and I can’t wait for you all to find out what they are!”
“I really like being Catholic; I think it’s the best thing ever! At this year’s UCCC, I’m really looking forward to the liturgies – Mass and Adoration especially. I really can’t wait to be involved with planning these special moments where everyone in the conference gets to encounter God in the Blessed Sacrament. The entire team is doing this for the glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and the best way to do that, I think, is to do what Catholics have done for centuries: receive God in Holy Communion and spend time with Him in Adoration. So I can’t wait for those moments, and for everyone in the conference to experience them!”
“At UCCC 2017, I’m looking forward to the ways God will surprise me! I’ve been to two UCCCs so far, and at one, I came with no expectations whatsoever, and at the other, I came with so many. Both times, God surprised me, speaking to me in ways I did not expect – through the talks, liturgies, and conversations I had with friends old and new. In hindsight, I realized that I desperately needed God to move my heart in those ways in that moment. God knows better than anyone the deepest desires in our hearts, and He always answers us! So I look forward to listening to Him – taking all He wants to give with an open heart!”
“The first time I heard about UCCC was during the summer of 2012, when my friend Rosemary made an announcement during a retreat dinner – “Hey, there’s a conference for Catholic college students up at Berkeley next year, you all should come!” – What?! Catholic young adults like me? Road trip? DOWN! Four UCCCs later, here I am, excited to help bring UCCC to UCLA!
UCCC is something special – a conference hosted by college students, for college students. From dynamic speakers to engaging liturgies, UCCC helped me grow spiritually and really dive deeper into the beautiful faith of Catholicism, bringing that light of Christ back to our campuses and to everyone we meet. I’ve been truly inspired by so many passionate peers, growing together in faith and being witnesses anchored and grounded in Christ. I know when I visit other college campus or cities across the state, I’ll be able to find a Mass buddy and more! It’s a living example of the unity and universality of being Catholic. I’m really #blessed to work with an awesome UCCC Staff, putting together a even more awesome conference! Can’t wait for February!”
